Curriculum
The educational goals will be achieved through the Cardiology Core Curriculum
which will include an introductory summer series of didactic lectures
during the first two months of each year and subsequent didactic lecture
series throughout the year covering a variety of topics in Cardiovascular
Disease. The training program will provide didactic instruction in the
following ACGME specified topics:
Basic science
- Cardiovascular anatomy
- Cardiovascular metabolism
- Cardiovascular pathology
- Cardiovascular pharmacology
- Cardiovascular physiology
- Genetic causes of cardiovascular disease
- Molecular biology of cardiovascular system
Prevention of cardiovascular disease
- Epidemiology and biostatistics
- Cardiac rehabilitation
- Current and emerging risk factors
Evaluation and management of patients with the following:
- Acute myocardial infarction and other acute ischemic syndromes
- Arrhythmias
- Cardiomyopathy
- Cardiovascular evaluation of patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery
- Congestive heart failure
- Coronary heart disease- acute and chronic
- Heart Disease in pregnancy
- Hypertension
- Infections and inflammatory heart disease
- Lipid disorder and metabolic syndrome
- Need for end of life care
- Pericardial disease
- Peripheral vascular disease
- Pulmonary HTN
- Thromboembolic disorder
- Valvular heart disease
