DALLAS — A redesigned labor and delivery unit will again welcome the gift of life at Methodist Dallas Medical Center – just in time for the holidays.
This week patients will move into the newly transformed floor, 3 Schenkel Tower, after a $13 million makeover that was nine months in the making.
“Members of our medical staff worked hand in hand with hospital designers to create a labor and delivery space that is as functional as it is beautiful," Methodist Dallas President John Phillips, FACHE, said.
The Women’s and Children’s Services unit includes 14 labor and delivery suites, two operating rooms for cesarean sections, and a recovery area. The floor also features a five-room Obstetrics Emergency Department, which will provide around-the-clock, specialized care for expecting mothers led by OB hospitalists.
“By adding an OB emergency department, we are once again elevating our care for mothers and their growing families,” Phillips said.
Members of the community toured the transformed space last week with donors and Methodist Health System leaders after a ribbon cutting at the hospital.
The Methodist Health System Foundation raised almost $11.5 million for the $13 million project. First in April 2023, the Robert S. Folsom Leadership Award celebrated Mary and Rich Templeton for their many accomplishments and raised over $2 million. In addition to that fundraiser, a $1.1 million grant from the Crystal Charity Ball helped the Foundation surpass its fundraising goal.
Methodist Dallas expects to see more than 2,400 deliveries this year alone.
