Methodist named top health system in North Texas

DALLAS, Texas — Methodist Health System stole the show at last week’s D CEO Excellence in Healthcare Awards, earning the top honor as this year’s Outstanding Health System.

Chief Executive Officer James C. Scoggin, Jr., accepted the award on behalf of the health system, he has led since 2019. Speaking to colleagues from healthcare organizations across Dallas-Fort Worth, he credited Methodist’s resilience over the past year, as well as its century-long legacy of serving the southern sector of Dallas.

“It’s our honor to be a part of this healthcare community,” said Scoggin. “I’m very proud of the resilience of the Methodist family and this leadership team for accomplishing or exceeding every goal set before them in the face of all that has transpired in the past fiscal year.”

The star of the show was Danny Holland, MD, orthopedic trauma surgeon on the medical staff at Methodist Dallas, who won D CEO’s first Healthcare Hero Award for his work, healing the wounded in war zones around the world, including Ukraine last fall and Armenia this year.

“Even in that tragic situation, there’s this glimmer of hope,” said Dr. Holland, who encouraged the crowd to embrace their God-given gifts and use them in service to others.

That’s exactly what Methodist’s final honoree of the night has done for 25 years at Methodist Dallas. Jacob Locke earned the Outstanding Volunteer Award for two decades of service to the hospital.

“The people at Methodist, no matter where they come from, we are a family,” Locke said.
