Methodist Health System is gaining national attention for its efforts to embrace and respect diversity. Last week, Methodist was named one of the Healthcare Diversity Council’s Top 3 Healthcare Diversity Organizations in the nation. The award was presented at the National Healthcare Diversity Conference on July 24 in Houston at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
“We’ve already seen our diversity work pay off internally, with a more inclusive hospital environment and more informed workforce, but it’s so rewarding to see those achievements recognized on a national level,” says Cheryl Flynn, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer. “We’re proud to be among those leading the way in this all too important aspect of company culture.”
The other two hospitals recognized among the Top 3 were Trinity Health in Michigan and UPMC in Pennsylvania.
Methodist was selected for the Top 3 honor for several reasons, including its Intentional Inclusion and Diversity Council and corresponding campus collaboratives, which are focused on key healthcare diversity initiatives. These include the Patient Advisory Councils, cultural competency and unconscious bias training sessions, the CultureVision online resource, and recognizing cultural observances.
