Methodist Dallas Medical Center will be able to better serve trauma patients ages 65 and older, thanks to a new specialized geriatric trauma unit. Located on the newly remodeled ninth floor of Schenkel Tower, the Sammons Geriatric Trauma Unit welcomed its first patients on Tuesday, June 4.
“This new unit is designed to serve the specific needs of a growing aging population,” says John Phillips, FACHE, President of Methodist Dallas. “Our goal is that tailoring care to geriatric trauma patients in this new space will lead to better overall patient outcomes.”
A day earlier, nurses, physicians, design team members, and hospital leaders came together for a ribbon cutting and blessing for the new unit. Joining them were three special guests from Sammons Enterprises: Heather Kreager, company CEO; Cheryl Gosch, VP and general counsel; and Kevin Ann Marcyes, VP of administration. Sammons Enterprises’ generous donation made the new unit possible.
