Becker’s Healthcare and The Advisory Board Ranks Methodist Amongst Best Places to Work

Methodist Health System is excited to announce that two leading sources for healthcare news, best practices, and analytics have listed Methodist among the nation’s best for employee engagement.

Methodist placed on Becker’s Healthcare’s “150 Top Places to Work in Healthcare” list for the eighth consecutive year. The list highlights hospitals, health systems and healthcare companies that promote diversity, employee engagement and professional growth.

Methodist was selected because it offers benefits and opportunities for employees to build successful careers, promotes leadership from within, and hosts employee recognition programs to highlight accomplishments.

“Our nearly 10-thousand employees are our greatest asset. Encouraging their professional development and making sure they have a good work/life balance is important to our senior leadership and our board,” says Stephen Mansfield, PhD, FACHE. “Engaged and motivated employees reflects our positive culture and our dedication to our mission, which is to improve and save lives through compassionate quality healthcare.”

Programs Methodist features to promote employee engagement, development and diversity include:

  • Intentional Inclusion & Diversity Leadership Councils on each campus, and at the corporate level
  • Tuition reimbursement program
  • Ongoing professional development via online courses through learning tool, “Methodist University”
  • Emerging Leaders Program for high-performing employees
  • Employee feedback is received through employee engagement surveys, and town hall meetings
  • Bright Ideas program allows employees to electronically submit improvement ideas regarding any aspect of the organization.

Methodist was also named one of the “Top 20 Workplaces of the Year” by The Advisory Board. Winners were chosen based on employee responses to survey questions. Answers help The Advisory Board determine whether employees are engaged, content, ambivalent, or disengaged.

“This recognition is really special because the results came 87% of our employees,” says Cheryl Flynn, SPHR, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. “This was Methodist’s highest engagement survey participation on record. It’s really rewarding to know that such a large majority of our employees feel engaged at work.”

The Advisory Board is a best practices firm that uses research and technology to improve the performances of healthcare organizations. According to the Advisory Board, engaged staff are known to go above and beyond to help their organization succeed. Not surprisingly, health care organizations with higher levels of staff engagement also have higher patient satisfaction scores, better staff retention, and a stronger culture of safety.
