Hospital Packing List
You may need to stay in the hospital overnight following surgery. If so,
here is a list to help you pack.
Clothing:
- Pajamas, underwear, and socks/stockings (you may be required to wear a
hospital-supplied gown during your stay).
- Exercise shoes with closed-in heels and nonslip soles
- One to two days of comfortable, loose-fitting clothing
Personal Items:
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hair brush or comb, etc.
- Walker (will need on the day you leave)
- Glasses, hearing aid, dentures, and any other items you use every day.
- Cell phone charger
Optional Items:
- Personal hygiene products, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, face wash
- Hand sanitizer
- Ear plugs
- Sleep mask
- Snacks
Information:
- Insurance card(s)
- Driver’s license or photo ID
- Health insurance/Medicare/Medicaid card
- List of your current prescription and non-prescription medications with
strengths and dosages
- List of allergies (including medication, food, clothing, etc.) and how
you react to each
- List of medical equipment you have at home
- Educational materials you received in preadmission classes
- Advanced directives, such as a living will or healthcare power of attorney,
if you have them. Hospital personnel are required by law to ask for these
when you are admitted. They will put a copy in your medical record and
return the original.
- Any co-payment required by your insurance company, if not paid during preadmission
LEAVE AT HOME:
- Jewelry (including body piercings)
- Credit cards
- Keys
- Cash or Checkbooks
- Laptops, cell phones, or tablets (optional).
