Psychiatric Intensive Outpatient Program
Intensive outpatient treatment for mental health issues
Our Psychiatric Intensive Outpatient Program meets Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM.
The Psychiatric Intensive Outpatient Program at Methodist Richardson Medical Center is designed to intensively treat mental health issues, while the patient maintains regular activities such as work or family responsibilities. The program focuses on cognitive therapy, self esteem development, stress management, and responsibility for recovery.
Early intervention may prevent an inpatient admission and subsequent lost time from work.
Patients attend sessions three times a week
- Tuesday and Thursday sessions specific to patient skills training and group therapy
- Family group sessions on Fridays for family education and skills training
- Participants are also expected to attend local mental health support groups once a week while in the program
- Patients are often on an antidepressant or other types of psychotropic medication, and most visit their psychiatrists while in the program.
Upon completion, the patient is encouraged to continue with an outpatient psychiatrist and/or individual therapist and support groups.
