Sophisticated urologic treatment at Methodist Dallas

Methodist has available comprehensive treatment for urological diseases, abnormalities, and disorders. All urological treatment procedures are provided by or at the direction of independently practicing physicians on the medical staff at Methodist Health System. Some of the more recent treatment advances offered at our hospitals include:

InterStim®

InterStim is an implant that emits mild electrical signals to help relieve overactive bladder (OAB) and incontinence. Methodist Dallas Medical Center is one of the few hospitals in North Texas to offer this treatment, which can often improve overactive bladder and incontinence symptoms by 50 percent or more and, unlike other treatments, is wholly reversible.

About 17 million Americans suffer from overactive bladders, according to the American Foundation for Urologic Disease. The condition causes a frequent and strong urge to urinate, which can interfere with daily activities and quality of life.

Before insertion, the InterStim implant is attached outside the body for three to five days. If the overactive bladder or incontinence symptoms improve by more than half during this trial, the InterStim implant can be surgically placed inside the body. The procedure takes no more than 30 to 60 minutes, and people are usually out of bed within a day and back to normal activities in about two weeks.

The Dornier® System

The Dornier® system is a digital imaging system that can be used for diagnosis and treatment of urological diseases and disorders. The system can aid in the removal of stones in the urinary tract, endoscopic treatment of the prostate, removal of bladder and urethral tumors, and treatments for incontinence.
