Medications and lifestyle changes can give you relief from your GERD symptoms for a time. But they don’t always provide lasting symptom control. In some cases, you may qualify for a minimally invasive option that treats the source of your GERD.
Our system is one of the few in the Dallas-Fort Worth area offering the transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF) procedure. This innovative, incisionless, minimally invasive procedure creates a new gastroesophageal valve — reducing your symptoms and preventing further damage from GERD.
TIF is performed using the FDA-cleared EsophyX® device attached to a standard endoscope. The endoscope is gently guided through the mouth and esophagus to the stomach. The TIF device is then used to retract and resect the fundus (the upper part of the stomach). TIF uses polypropylene fasteners, rather than a surgical incision, to create a new valve between your stomach and esophagus.
Incisionless surgery greatly reduces the risks associated with blood loss, need for transfusions, surgical infection, and incisional herniation. Many people go home the next day and resume normal activities within a few days. The TIF procedure offers you:
The TIF procedure isn’t the right choice for everyone with GERD. A thorough evaluation by a gastroenterologist is needed to see if you qualify.
