Our unique size and organizational structure make MDMC an ideal learning environment for pharmacy residents. Our 585 bed community teaching hospital offers specialized critical care services in three adult ICUs (medicine, surgery/trauma, and neurology) and provides comprehensive emergency services as a Level I Trauma center. Our residents are also given ample teaching opportunities through our affiliations with several colleges of pharmacy and our own PGY1 residency program.

PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.
The PGY2 critical care residency program at Methodist Dallas Medical Center
(MDMC) produces graduates capable of practicing as clinical specialists
in multiple areas of adult critical care including medicine, surgery/trauma,
and neurology. Graduates will possess the ability to collaborate with
other healthcare providers and hospital leadership to optimize safe and
effective drug therapy. The program is designed to give the resident a
structured core of learning objectives with emphasis on the adult critically
ill population.
The PGY2 critical care residency is a 12-month, clinical rotation based program. Resident rotation responsibilities include:
Residents are also expected to be involved with various hospital committees including P&T, Critical Care Committee, and Antimicrobial Stewardship. There is an opportunity to attain a teaching certificate through the University of North Texas College of Pharmacy if not attained during PGY1 training. As a pharmacy resident, in addition to rotation responsibilities, you are afforded the opportunity to be a member of the hospital pharmacy staff and serve as a pharmacist in the department.
